Ajman Free Zone Company Setup

About Ajman Free Zone

Founded in 1988, the Ajman Free Zone is among the most renowned and historic free zones in the United Arab Emirates. About 40 minutes drive from Dubai, it is located in the Emirate of Ajman.

This area, which is close to a seaport, is open to all types of industries, from independent contractors to small manufacturing and trading companies.

Since the Ajman Free Zone Business Setup offers several monthly payment plans and competitive costs for young entrepreneurs, it is more appealing to those starting a new company from scratch than Dubai.

Many types of enterprises can operate in the Ajman Free Zone. As stated above, there aren’t many reasons why a business can’t register in the Ajman Free Zone.

The facilities and easy access to Sharjah and Dubai will appeal to larger companies. If you’re looking for other options, check out Abu Dhabi’s Khalifa Industrial Zone or Sharjah Airport Free Zone.

Is the company setup in Ajman Free Zone suitable for your business?

— Yes If

  • You can establish a business in the Ajman Free Zone in one to three working days if you need a very fast business setup in the United Arab Emirates. Additionally, you can apply from the representative office of the free zone in Dubai rather than having to travel to Ajman.
  • If you work as a freelancer, this free zone provides some of the most affordable choices, including packages that just require one visa.
  • The zone offers the most affordable one-visa package if you only require one.
  • In comparison to other free zones, Ajman Free Zone offers good warehouses with lower rents if you’re looking for a reasonably priced warehouse.
  • For 5,555 AED, you can obtain an e-commerce license without a visa if you run an online business.
  • The free zone offers inexpensive warehouse space and an industrial license for import and export businesses. Since this is a recognized free zone, your import and export operations will be tax-favored.
  • Ajman is the only free zone that formally provides the option of paying in installments if you are unable to pay the entire setup price at once.
  • You are granted membership on the same day your company’s registration documents are issued. This is perfect for businesses needing Chamber of Commerce certification for international trade.
  • If you make stock trades with your personal money. People had to register for another activity in order to obtain their visas because this activity was previously unavailable; however, it is now available in the Ajman Free Zone.
  • If you wish to establish an offshore business in the free zone of Ajman.

— No If

  • If you require two or more visa packages, the cost goes up a lot, which makes it less cost-effective for companies that need several visas.
  • The issuing of UAE residency visas is not guaranteed if you are a member of a high-risk nationality, such as Egyptian, Syrian, or Iranian.
  • The Ajman Free Zone is better suited for industrial and trading businesses if you need to establish an IT company. Alternatively, you can consider Free Zone business setup in IFZA to form an IT company.
  • There may not be any warehouses of the appropriate size available if you need them immediately, and you may have to wait an extended period.
  • Ajman is best suited for light production, assembly, and storage, not heavy manufacturing. Try the JAFZA Free Zone, Hamriyah Free Zone, or UAQ Free Zone instead.
  • A substantial deposit of 20,000 AED must be made if you are a woman wishing to start a business in the United Arab Emirates and intend to sponsor your dependents. Dubai Free Zones should be considered because the emirate has fewer strict rules.

AFZA/AFZ company formation process

Once all necessary paperwork has been gathered and filed, Ajman business formation can be finished in 1 to 3 working days.

Step 1: Determine the legal entity of your business and license type

You can select from various legal entities and licensing types in AFZA. Make a business strategy after deciding on the business activity. You can create the following legal entities:

  • Free Zone Establishment (FZE): One shareholder
  • Free Zone Company (FZC): Multiple shareholders
  • Branch of a local company
  • Branch of a foreign company

Step 2: Prepare the necessary documents

AFZA requires a minimal set of documents:

  • Passport copy
  • Passport-size photo
  • Residential address, phone number, and email
  • Company name
  • Business activity

All registration and processing fees must be paid at this point as well.

Step 3: Receive Ajman free zone business license and registration documents for the company

After the registration is completed, you will receive your set of corporate documents, which include:

  • License
  • Chamber of Commerce registration certificate
  • Lease agreement
  • Memorandum of Association (for companies with multiple partners)

You will be able to apply for a corporate bank account in Dubai with these documents. In order to open a corporate bank account in the United Arab Emirates, at least one shareholder must be a resident of the country.

Step 4: Get an establishment card that provides details about your business and qualifies it to sponsor residency visas.

Step 5: Apply for an entry permit to arrive in the UAE.

Submit an application for an entrance permit. You must convert your visa status from a previous visa to a resident visa once the entry permit is granted if you apply from within the United Arab Emirates.

Arrive in the UAE, have your entry permit stamped, and then complete the following steps of the residency visa application process by providing the required paperwork if you are not already there.

Step 6: Undergo a medical checkup and submit documents for a residency visa

There’s no need to fly to Ajman to take the medical test; you can do it in Dubai.

Step 7: Apply for an Emirates ID

Step 8: Complete the biometrics procedure in one of the Emirates ID centers.

Step 9:

You can submit all the information for visa approval as soon as you obtain the results of your biometrics and medical test. You will receive an email with your electronic visa. It is also available through the UAEICP app.

Step 10: Receive your Emirates ID.

Following the issuance of the residence visa, the government creates a plastic identity card, which is a crucial document needed to pay bills or fines, rent an apartment, open a bank account, and more. Additionally, it gives you access to various local services and savings.

Step 11: Open a bank account

To open a corporate bank account, submit an application to a UAE bank. It can take a few weeks for approval. You can begin operating your company in the UAE as soon as you have the account details.

One of the quickest and most effective possibilities for new business establishments in the UAE is the Ajman Free Zone, where company formation can be finished in one working day.

Ajman Free Zone License and cost

Numerous permits appropriate for various operations, including trading, services, consultancy, and industrial production, are available in the Ajman Free Zone.

TYPE OF License: COST, AED
0 visa freelancer license
6,000
1 visa freelance permit
12,121
1 visa package with trading or service license
13,131
2 visa packages with trading or service license
21,212

The cost of starting a business in Ajman, which includes five activities and five shareholders, is as low as 5,555 AED per license without a visa. The costs of other packages vary based on business operations and visa distribution.

There will be extra immigration expenses if you intend to open resident visas under the company:

  • E-channel deposit: 1,025 AED
  • E-channel registration fee: 2,300 AED
  • Visa, medical checkup, and Emirates ID: 3,600 AED
  • Renewal fee of E-channel: 1,200 AED

Additionally, you can purchase 600 AED each to add shareholders to your business.

Multiple payments plan

The only free zone in the United Arab Emirates that formally accepts multiple installment payments is AFZA. The business can be paid for in two, three, or six installments.

The Ajman Free Zone Authority has established some requirements that must be fulfilled. The most crucial requirement is that postdated checks from a UAE bank be used to make the payment. Therefore, if you choose to pay for your Ajman Free Zone license in three installments, you can pay the first one in cash and the remaining two checks on the day you apply for the business.

Naturally, you won’t have any checks from a UAE bank if you’re traveling from overseas. In this situation, you may, for instance, use a friend’s or family member’s checks. However, in order to use his checkbook, AFZA will require them to sign a letter of no objection. In addition, you must present bank statements for the previous three months as evidence of your financial stability.

AFZA business activities

The AFZA license permits one service activity or three trading operations. It costs AED 1,600 to add extra activities to some packages.

LICENSE TYPE ACTIVITY ALLOWED
Commercial license
This activity makes it possible to trade a variety of products. Additionally, it can be utilized for exporting and importing items. Flex desks, regular offices, and warehouses are among the facilities that the commercial licensing company is permitted to use.
Service license
This activity permits a variety of non-trading professional and service activities. Facilities like regular offices and flex desks are available to the service license company.
Industrial license
This includes several kinds of product manufacture. To produce these commodities, raw materials might be imported into the United Arab Emirates. Ajman freezone facilities for an industrial license include offices, warehouses, and land.
E-commerce license
To expand your e-commerce firm in both B2C and B2B marketplaces, obtain an electronic trading license. Take advantage of benefits, including trading on third-party websites and cash on delivery. Ideal for warehouses and offices. Online sales of jewels, automobiles, office and personal utilities, industrial equipment, and other items are among the activities.
Freelance license
In 2019, AFZA launched the freelancer permit category, which offers a license and a two-year visa at the most affordable prices. Marketing research consulting, IT consulting, educational consulting, interior design engineering consulting, media consulting and studies, and women’s personal care and beauty are among the activities covered by this license. However, they are not the only ones.
Pioneer license
It is intended to empower young adults (ages 20 to 30) and encourage their independence in the workplace. It offers flexible co-working spaces without long-term expenditures, making it ideal for startups, young entrepreneurs, and students. Members can sponsor family members and are granted a single residence visa.
Offshore license
Companies that operate in a jurisdiction other than the one in which they were incorporated are the target of the offshore license. Property ownership, investments, consulting and advisory services, shipping, individual property, and other activities are all included.

Activities in the free zone are categorized by industry sector:

The Ajman Free Zone is directly across the street from the Customs and Immigration office.

AFZA visa costs

Visa-free, single-visa, and multiple-visa setup packages are available in the Ajman Free Zone. Please be aware that the number of visas available in the multiple visa packages is limited based on the facility selected.

For instance, there are only two visas available with a flex desk. You will need to hire a larger office space if you require more visas. Businesses can apply for ten or more visas while renting a warehouse.

One of the most affordable packages with a single visa is provided by AFZA. However, a package that includes two or more visas becomes much more expensive.

A medical examination and Emirates ID are included in the 3,600 AED cost of an Ajman visa. Although they must be completed in the Emirate of Ajman, you can also finish this step in Dubai for an extra 100 AED.

Almost the same steps as in all other free zones must be followed in order to obtain a resident visa under your own free zone company:

  • Business registration: 1 day
  • Establishment card (immigration card): 3-5 working days
  • E-channel: 2-3 working days
  • Entry visa: 5 days
  • Medical checkup:  1 day
  • Biometrics: 1 day
  • Visa approval: 3-5 days after the biometrics
  • Emirates ID: 5-7 days after the visa approval

After the entrance visa is granted, you will need to change your status from tourist to resident if you submitted your resident visa while visiting the United Arab Emirates.

AFZA company license renewal

Every year, the Ajman business must be renewed. Additionally, you can choose to renew for a number of years. The cost of renewing a company will be the same as the registration fee.

The shareholder does not need to be present in person to complete the renewal; it can be completed remotely.

Upon renewal, you will receive:

  • New license
  • Renewed lease agreement
  • Renewed Chamber of Commerce certificate

You must also renew E-channel if your business is eligible for visas. An audit report is not necessary.

The renewal process takes one to two days.

AFZA company amendments

Most of the time, amendments can be made remotely. A board resolution noting the adjustment must be prepared by the corporation and signed by all shareholders.

For modifications, AFZA charges very affordable fees, ranging from 500 AED to 2000 AED.

AFZA company liquidation

In AFZA, closing a business is also a simple and inexpensive process. About a month is needed for the process. It includes the following key steps:

  1. Visa cancellation (7-10 working days): if the company has any visas.
  2. Establishment card cancellation (7-10 working days): if the company was eligible for a visa.
  3. License cancellation.

It is possible to do a liquidation remotely without the shareholder being present. It is not necessary to have a power of attorney. The business expert might finish the liquidation process.

Before submitting an application for company liquidation, you should close any corporate bank accounts you may have held. The bank should provide you with a letter of verification attesting to that.

Following the company’s dissolution, the free zone will formally acknowledge the liquidation by sending you a deregistration letter.

Following the completion of the liquidation, you will get a reimbursement for any deposits made under the company’s name.
