Company Setup in Umm Al Quwain Free Zone (UAQ)

About Umm Al Quwain Free Zone

Despite being established in 1987, the Umm Al Quwain Free Trade Zone wasn’t well-known until 2014, when it began to market its services and undergo some reorganization.

Despite being in the UAE’s smallest emirate, it has all the amenities that larger free zones are proposing.

Being the least expensive choice for startups in the area, UAQ FTZ’s cost is one of its most alluring features. With business establishment packages as cheap as 13,900 AED, small firms and entrepreneurs can enter the thriving UAE market at minimal expense.

For companies where the precise location within the United Arab Emirates is not a crucial consideration, UAQ FTZ is especially well-suited for business setup.

Furthermore, UAQ is an excellent option for businesses that engage in import and export operations. The neighboring port is easily accessible from the free zone, allowing for quick handling of cargo and seamless logistics.

In conclusion, UAQ is probably appropriate for practically any type of economic activity. We suggest this free zone for anyone who doesn’t care about location and requires a quick and inexpensive UAE company setup or company formation.

Is UAQ suitable for your company formation?

— Yes If

  • UAQ provides a variety of activities for freelancers, such as creative occupations and special categories that aren’t found in other free zones.
  • If starting a business in Dubai isn’t essential to you, UAQ is close to major seaports and 40 minutes from Dubai International Airport and Sharjah International Airport. It will be less expensive to set up.
  • The 13,900 AED Alpha package, which includes one license and one visa, would be ideal for small or starting businesses.
  • If your business is big and involved in both import and export, you will require warehouses to store items, industrial sites, and roomy office space. At 1.75 AED per square foot, you can purchase land for industrial use. The starting plot size is 2,500 square meters.

— No If

  • Your visa will not be granted if you are an Iranian, Syrian, or Egyptian national, as these are high-risk nationalities.
  • Affordable warehouses are in high demand if you are in the trade business.
  • UAQ does not offer installment payment options if you require them. Instead, you might choose the Ajman Free Zone.
  • The SHAMS free zone would be more economical for media operations.

UAQ company formation process

UAQ is the best option if you are new to the UAE and wish to start a business with little time and money commitment. You only need your passport, proof of residency, and an entry permission visa; no mountains of complicated paperwork are required.

You don’t have to enter and remain in the free zone all the time. You can work from anywhere in the United Arab Emirates. Only sponsoring visa applications and opening a bank account require in-person presence. Establishing, running, and dissolving a business is simple.

Step 1: Determine the legal entity of your business and license type

You can choose a free zone corporation (FZC), free zone establishment (FZE), or branch at UAQ. Each license can be used in up to three unrelated commercial activities or 10 related ones. Two business operations per license are permitted in the consulting area.

Step 2: Prepare and upload the necessary documents

UAQ requires a minimal documentation package.

  • your passport
  • a utility bill as proof of residence
  • entry stamp

You don’t have to be in person to register; you may do it online. At this stage, you must also pay all registration and processing fees.

Step 3: Receive the license and registration documents for the company

They are as follows:

  • Certificate of incorporation
  • Trade license
  • Shareholder certificate
  • Lease agreement
  • MoA and Articles of Association
  • Establishment card (contains information about your company and visa quotes)

Step 4: Apply for an Entry permit to arrive in the UAE

You don’t have to be in person to register; you may do it online. At this stage, you have to pay all registration and processing fees.

Step 5: Undergo a medical checkup and submit documents for a residence visa

You don’t have to go to Umm Al Quwain to do the medical test; you may do it in Dubai. It should be noted that, unlike other free zones, such as the DMCC, medical insurance is not needed when applying for a residence visa.

Step 6: Receive your Emirates ID

Following the approval of the residence visa, the government creates a plastic identity card, which is a crucial document needed to pay bills or fines, rent an apartment, open a bank account, and more. Additionally, it gives you access to a variety of local services and savings.

Step 7: Open a bank account

To open a corporate bank account, submit an application to a UAE bank. It can take a few weeks for approval. You can begin operating your company in the UAE as soon as you have the account details.

A maximum of three unrelated commercial activities or ten linked activities are allowed per license. The consulting, freelance, and services segments permit two company operations per license.

Packages range from zero visa companies to those with one, two, or three visa possibilities. You can increase your plan at any time, even if you begin with a zero visa package. If you need to cut down on recurring expenses, packages can also be lowered.

UAQ Dual License

A dual Umm Al Quwain Free Zone license is available to you; this is an unbeatable UAQ Free Zone deal. How does it operate? For just 2,500 AED, you can add a license from a different category to a business that is already set up with one. For instance, you start a trading business and then add a consulting license to it.

UAQ Business Activities

Over 1,500 commercial operations are permitted in the UAQ Free Zone under the previously mentioned licenses. You can do anything, at any size, from producing cars on a massive scale to marketing your products and services on social media.

Special business operations that are not covered by general trade or services licenses are provided by premium commercial and premium consulting licenses. Legal consulting, real estate consulting, ship management, asset management, delight yachts, and private aircraft charters are a few examples. Keep in mind that each license only permits one premium activity.

UAQ facilities

A desk is a desk in a shared office.

Because Umm Al Quwain Free Zone has both offices and warehouses, it can accommodate any kind of business.

A 40-minute drive from Dubai, UAQ is situated between the free zones of Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah. It is also near developed seaports and airports in Dubai and Sharjah, which makes it easier for enterprises to import and sell.

UAQ visa costs

One of the cheapest visas in the United Arab Emirates is the Umm Al Quwain Free Zone visa. Every visa has a two-year validity period.

The cost of an Umm Al Quwain residency visa (AED):

FREEZONE VISA FEES MEDICAL CHECK-UP, AED EMIRATES ID, AED
Investor/Employee visa cost
2,500 AED
637 AED
370 AED

It is not necessary to have health insurance to process a visa.

Getting a dependent’s visa is really simple. Just keep in mind that the primary prerequisites for that are:

  • Apartment rent
  • Attested in the UAE Embassy birth/marriage certificates
  • Stamped resident visa of the sponsor

It is possible to open resident visas remotely without physically visiting UAQ. Having a visa from the UAE does not require you to live in UAQ; you can live elsewhere in the Emirates.

The following nations are considered high-risk, and getting a resident visa may be difficult for their citizens:

  • Syria
  • Egypt
  • Sudan
  • Turkey
  • Bangladesh
  • Iraq
  • Algeria and others

A security approval can be completed before the company registration payment is made to check the likelihood of receiving the visa. There is always the potential to accommodate someone from any country because the high-risk list is constantly updated and varies depending on the Emirates.

Since there are fewer immigration limitations in Dubai, it is typically advised for certain nationalities to establish a business there.

UAQ company license renewal

Similar to registration, UAQ company renewal can also be completed remotely. A fresh copy of the Flexi-desk lease agreement has to be submitted to the free zone along with the payment.

There is no need for audit reports.

Usually, renewal is completed in two to three days.

A new license and flexi-desk lease agreement will be given to you upon renewal.

Typically, renewal fees are slightly lower than incorporation fees.

The Alpha Business Package can be renewed for just 10,500 AED.

UAQ company amendments

Company name changes, business activities, share transfers, manager/director changes, and other changes are examples of potential revisions. It is possible to process most changes remotely.

The shareholders need to be present in person for the share transfer process, or they must give a notarized Power of Attorney to a trustee who may act on their behalf.

UAQ company liquidation

The owner must also be present in person during company liquidation, or a POA holder must visit. You will need to pay UAQ, return all of the company’s original paperwork, and wait around a month for the process to be completed.

The following is the process for liquidation:

1. First, you have to provide some obligatory documents:

  • a form for deregistration

  • A cancelation form for a visa

  • copies of each visa holder’s passport and visa

  • shareholder resolution stating the reasoning behind the company’s dissolution and signed by the shareholders

2. Pay cancellation fees, namely

  • License cancellation: 3,000 AED

  • Establishment card cancellation: 250 AED

  • Visa cancellation: Each visa costs 350 AED. (This is 600 AED if the applicant is not in the United Arab Emirates.)

3. Your company’s liquidation is announced in a newspaper ad that runs for 15 calendar days.

4. Following this, the shareholder visa cancellation procedure begins (4-5 days).

5. Your email will get a deregistration letter verifying the termination of your business.
