KIZAD — Khalifa Free Zone Abu Dhabi Business Setup

About KIZAD

Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi is called KIZAD, or KEZAD Khalifa Industrial. This cutting-edge free zone is situated next to Khalifa Port, one of the world’s most advanced ports and a significant hub for trade and logistics.

AD Ports (Abu Dhabi Ports Group), the primary developer and operator of ports and economic zones in Abu Dhabi involved in trade, industry, and logistics, first created KIZAD in 2012 to establish an industrial free zone that would be immediately connected to the newly developed Khalifa Port.

KEZAD Group (Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi Group) is an extensive conglomeration of 12 specialized economic zones with a total area of 550 thousand sq. km., including KEZAD Al Ma’mourah, KEZAD Khalifa Industrial, KEZAD Musaffah, KEZAD Al Ain, KEZAD Al Faya, and others.

In 2022, AD Ports Group decided to merge KIZAD with ZonesCorp, a free zone operator. Currently, more than 1,800 businesses from 17 different industrial and economic sectors are part of the KEZAD Group.

Now one of the most reasonably priced free zones in Abu Dhabi, Khalifa Industrial Zone was renamed KEZAD Khalifa Industrial following the merger and creation of KEZAD Group.

The variety of logistic choices is one of its main characteristics. Apart from being next to Khalifa Port, it is practically situated between the Emirates of Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

It is close to several airports, such as Abu Dhabi International Airport, Al Maktoum International Airport (also called Dubai World Central), and Al Ain International Airport. The E13 (Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road) and E11 (Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Road) highways also provide excellent road connectivity.

Additionally, by integrating the KEZAD Group, Khalifa Industrial gives the area access to additional ports, airports, and economic zones, which expands its business and logistical possibilities.

Along with IFZA, another well-known zone in Fujairah, it entered the market relatively recently compared to many other UAE-free zones. Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD) Business Setup does, however, provide greater physical infrastructure, particularly for production, distribution, and storage. The amount is anticipated to surpass 15% of Abu Dhabi’s non-oil GDP by 2030.

Is AMC suitable for your business?

— Yes If

  • Since KIZAD is one of the most economical and cost-effective free zones in Abu Dhabi and the entire UAE, it is an excellent choice if you’re searching for a low-cost business setup solution.
  • If your organization is involved in trade, industry, or logistics, KIZAD offers great logistical options and big storage facilities, including standard and flexible warehouses of the highest quality.
  • If you intend to start a company that provides services like marketing, management, freight forwarding assistance, or travel.
  • Business setup in KIZAD permits the opening of a second license on the mainland without a local sponsor, which is advantageous if your company needs a dual license with a mainland facility or retail space.
  • If you’re an ADNOC contractor trying to find an affordable Abu Dhabi setup.
  • A business setup at the Sharjah Airport International Free Zone is another option you might want to consider. This area has a lot to offer industrial enterprises as well.

— No If

  • If you plan to start a company in Dubai.
  • You might be eligible to start a business in Abu Dhabi but not be given a resident visa if your nationality is deemed high-risk.
  • If the main focus of your company is non-industrial and you don’t need retail or storage space, we suggest the free zones of Dubai Media City or Fujairah Creative City for these kinds of business activities.

KIZAD company formation process

Companies in both free and non-free zones can be registered with the Khalifa Industrial Zone authorities. KIZAD offers packages that are both visa-eligible and zero-visa. The possibility of establishing a faraway business using online video verification is part of the KIZAD company formation process.

Step 1: Choose your business activities and license type

Choose the appropriate license type based on the business operations of your future enterprise. This is a crucial part of starting a business because selecting the incorrect license and activity might result in mistakes while registering the firm, which can make it difficult or impossible to obtain a bank account.

Remember that KIZAD allows up to five business operations under a single license; the business activity will be added to your company name, such as ABC Food & Beverages Trading LTD.

Step 2: Determine the legal entity of your business

Specify your company’s legal status in KIZAD. Limited Liability Companies (LLCs) and branches of already-existing companies established in other free zones or on the UAE mainland are among the company creation options offered by KIZAD.

Step 3: Prepare and file the required documentation

Get the required paperwork ready and submit it. KIZAD needs the following package of documents:

  • FZ application & licensing registration form (should be typed)
  • Business plan
  • RIC form
  • UBO form
  • Passport copies, with visa (if applicable)
  • NOC in Arabic from the sponsor on letterhead (if applicable)
  • Jinsiya (family book for UAE nationals)
  • Emirates ID copies (if applicable).
  • 1 passport-sized personal photo (with white background)
  • University educational certificates attested by the UAE embassy in a related country & translated to Arabic (for consultancy & investment service licenses only)
  • Proof of residency: electricity bill/tenancy contracts
  • Personal CV

It takes one to two weeks to complete the initial permission for company registration in KIZAD. The initial approval process costs 500 AED. Paying all registration and processing costs is another requirement for this phase.

Step 4: Collect the license and registration documents

Get the company’s license and registration documents, which include:

  • Certificate of Incorporation
  • Business License
  • Memorandum and Articles of Association
  • Investment Service Agreement
  • Share certificate
  • Lease agreement

Step 5: Secure your Establishment Card

Get the Establishment Card with the company details and visa quotations on it.

Step 6: Apply for an entry permit

Submit an application for a permit of entrance. If you are not in the UAE when the entry permit is being processed, you will have to return within 60 days of the document’s issue to finish the biometrics and medical examination required for your visa.

The status of your prior UAE tourist or resident visa will be changed to the new one if you are in the country when the entry permit is granted.

Step 7: Take a medical test and submit visa documents

Complete a medical examination and provide your biometrics and supporting documentation for the acceptance of your resident visa. The number of visas available for the company’s owners and employees may vary depending on the registration package.

Remember that, depending on the firm type and selected business activity, you may now receive initial clearance from the free zone authorities at KIZAD. Health insurance will also be required.

Step 8: Collect your Emirates ID

Get your Emirates ID card as soon as your visa is granted.

Step 9: Open a bank account

To open a corporate bank account, submit an application to a UAE bank. In order to register a bank account for the firm, at least one shareholder must obtain a UAE resident visa.

Furthermore, KIZAD does not need documentation proving that the share capital was deposited into the company’s bank account. However, depending on your chosen bank, you might be asked for it, so be careful to resolve this with them in advance.
