UAE Family Visa Requirements

It’s essential to get the necessary paperwork ready and consider any special accommodation needs in advance if you plan to bring your parents or family to the UAE while you’re there on an investor or work visa.

The main things you need to know to make sure your family moves to the UAE easily and hassle-free are covered in this post.

Required documents

The family members you intend to sponsor will determine the required paperwork. Family visas to the UAE can be obtained for:

  • Spouse (Muslims can sponsor up to two spouses)
  • Children below a certain age (biological and adopted)
  • Your parents or your spouse’s parents
  • Minor siblings
  • Grandchildren (with grandparents as sponsors)
  • Immediate family members of students attending UAE universities

The primary examples of full-family and single-parent households, as well as the peculiarities of parental sponsorship will be covered in the sections that follow.

Sponsoring a spouse and children

The documentation needed for family visas in the UAE for spouses and children will be covered in this section.

Case 1: Full family with children. Sponsor: husband
  • Sponsor’s residency visa
  • Sponsor’s Emirates ID
  • Photocopy of sponsor’s passport
  • A salary certificate or job contract must be issued no more than one month before the application. It is issued by the employer on the Mainland and by the free zone itself in a free zone.
  • Marriage Certificate (Muslims with mosque-registered marriages must obtain state marriage certificates)
  • Children’s birth certificates
  • copy of the passports of the wife and kids
  • photographs of the wife and kids
  • Lease or purchase arrangement with Ejari that is registered
  • Proof of foster children’s legal guardianship, usually in the form of a court order
  • Certificates of medical insurance for the spouse and children are advised for remaining in the UAE but are not required for visa applications.
Case 2: Full family with children. Sponsor: wife

An extra document is needed when the wife is the family visa sponsor: the father’s consent. This is a typical No Objection Certificate (NOC) that the Dubai Court notary issued. Remember that the child cannot travel abroad with just the father’s consent.

Case 3: Father with his children

Without the wife’s approval, a father who moves to the United Arab Emirates with his children and their mother can get family visas in the UAE for the children.

Case 4: Mother with children

When a mother and her children relocate to the United Arab Emirates, the children will need a court certificate confirming that the mother is the only guardian of the children, the father’s death certificate (if he is not alive), or the father’s approval (NOC) to acquire family visas in Dubai, UAE. In this instance, the father’s consent is insufficient to allow the children to travel overseas.

Sponsoring parents

To get a family visa in Dubai for your parents, you must prepare the essential paperwork mentioned above, as well as a few more things:

1. Mandatory insurance

The cost of the insurance will increase with the parent’s age. Family visas in Dubai have no upper age limit.

2. Mandatory sponsorship of both parents

As long as both parents stay alive, you are unable to sponsor just one of them. Proof of divorce or the death of one parent is necessary if the parents are not together.

3. Separate room for parents

In the UAE, parents must have their own room in any rental or owned housing. As a result, one-bedroom apartments and studios are unsuitable.

4. Minimum wage requirement of the sponsor

Parents can only be sponsored if the sponsor earns at least AED 20,000 per year.

5. Deposit

Every parent, regardless of the sponsor’s visa status (worker or investor), must pay a deposit of AED 3,000.

6. Providing proof of parental status and marriage

Both the sponsor’s birth certificate and the parents’ marriage certificate, which attest to their identity as the spouse’s or their own parents, must be included in the package of required paperwork.

Legalization of documents

All documents that will be needed in the Emirates, such as your marriage certificate, diploma, or children’s birth certificates, must be legalized before you travel there. Documents become legal when they are certified by the appropriate state authorities in the nation in which they are issued.

Legalization of documents is accomplished through consular procedures because the United Arab Emirates has not acceded to the 1961 Hague Convention.

Step-by-step instructions for legalizing documents in the country of issue:

  1. For legalization, get copies of the documents notarized.
  2. Have the translator’s signature notarized after translating the documents into Arabic. Arabic is still the primary language. However, an English translation is also advised.
  3. Get the notary’s seal and signature verified by your nation’s Ministry of Justice.
  4. Sign both the Ministry of Justice’s seal and the official’s signature at the Foreign Ministry’s Consular Department.
  5. Have the Ministry of Foreign Affairs seal and signature verified at the UAE Consulate.

Steps to apply for a Dubai Family Visa

Family visas can be applied for both while the family is still at home and after they have already reached the United Arab Emirates. In both situations, the same process is followed, specifically:

  1. Collection of documents.
  2. Submitted an entry permit application. The sponsor must bring the original Emirates ID and the paperwork package to the Dubai AMER Center. The permit is typically available in five business days.
  3. Changing the status of a visa Family members’ visa status is converted from tourist to resident if they are already in the United Arab Emirates on a tourist visa. Under this permit, they have 60 days to enter the UAE and apply for a Dubai family visa if they are not already there. They must apply again for an entry permit if they are unable to finish the process within 60 days.
  4. Fingerprinting and medical examination (for those aged 16 and up)
  5. Applying for an Emirates ID
  6. Depositing those who are sponsored. The sponsor must deposit 3,000 AED for each sponsored family member if they hold an investor visa. The deposit is required to sponsor parents regardless of the type of visa.
  7. Getting a Sticker for a Visa. You will receive a Visa Sticker in the mail as proof of your UAE resident status. Save it because you’ll need it with your Emirates ID later. You should know that your passport no longer has the visa stamp. You can exit the country with this sticker if you need to. There is no need to wait for your Emirates ID. Later, you can pick it up.
  8. Getting an ID card from Emirates. The Emirates ID card will be available a week after the Visa Sticker is received, at which point the individual will be considered a full-fledged resident of the United Arab Emirates.
