Key Highlights:
The announcement on 22 May 2025 of the collaboration between G42, OpenAI, Oracle, NVIDIA, SoftBank Group, and Cisco to build Stargate UAE represents a significant advancement in artificial intelligence and global cooperation. The recently built 5-gigawatt UAE–US AI Campus in Abu Dhabi will house the next-generation AI infrastructure cluster known as Stargate UAE.
OpenAI and Oracle will run the 1-gigawatt compute cluster, Stargate UAE, which G42 will build. SoftBank Group, Cisco, which will provide zero-trust security and AI-ready connection, and NVIDIA, which will give the latest NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GB300 systems, will also be involved in the partnership.
The facility will offer nation-scale computing, low-latency inferencing, and best-in-class infrastructure to produce AI that will satisfy the expectations of a world growing more intelligent by the day. By 2026, the first 200-megawatt AI cluster should be operational.
Stargate UAE provides the foundation for reliable, scalable AI. It will speed up scientific discovery and promote innovation in various sectors, including healthcare, energy, finance, and transportation, to support future economic growth and national development.
The announcement of the UAE–US AI Campus, which will house Stargate UAE, was made last week in Abu Dhabi in front of US President Donald J. Trump and UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The project expands to the “U.S.-UAE AI Acceleration Partnership,” a new framework established by the governments of the United States and the United Arab Emirates to strengthen cooperation and collaboration on AI and cutting-edge technologies and produce safe, secure, and responsible AI that benefits humanity in the long run.
According to this framework, UAE companies will also increase their investments in digital infrastructure in the United States through initiatives like Stargate US, which aligns with the recently announced “America First Investment Policy.”
The largest such deployment outside of the U.S. is the entire UAE–U.S. AI infrastructure complex, which covers 10 square miles. In addition to regional compute capabilities, it will supply 5 gigawatts of AI data center capacity.
The facility will be fueled by nuclear, solar, and natural gas to reduce carbon emissions. It will also have a research park that promotes innovation, talent development, and sustainable computing infrastructure.
Peng Xiao, Group CEO of G42, said, “The UAE-US AI relationship has advanced significantly with the introduction of Stargate UAE. As a founding partner, we take pride in collaborating with organizations that value ethical innovation and significant worldwide advancement. This project aims to create a bridge enabling economies, societies, and individuals worldwide to benefit from artificial intelligence. It is based on trust and ambition.”
Sam Altman, co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, said, “We’re turning a bold vision into a reality by opening the first Stargate outside of the United States in the United Arab Emirates.
This is the first significant milestone in our OpenAI for Countries initiative, which aims to develop AI infrastructure globally in collaboration with partners and allies. It’s a step toward ensuring that some of this era’s most significant innovations—modernized energy, customized learning, and better medications—can come from more places and benefit the world.”
Larry Ellison, Oracle’s CTO and Chairman, said, “Stargate combines nation-scale sovereign infrastructure with Oracle’s AI-optimized cloud. Thanks to this first-of-its-kind platform, every business organization and government body in the United Arab Emirates will be able to link their data to the most cutting-edge AI models in the world. This historic deployment exemplifies how national governments may leverage the power of the most significant technology in human history and establish a new benchmark for digital sovereignty.”
Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, said, “The most revolutionary force of our time is artificial intelligence. We are building the AI infrastructure with Stargate UAE to support the nation’s ambitious goals of empowering its citizens, expanding its economy, and influencing its future.”
Masayoshi Son, chairman and CEO of SoftBank Group, said, “We set out to create an engine for the upcoming information revolution when we launched Stargate in the United States in collaboration with OpenAI and Oracle.
The UAE is now the first country outside of America to adopt this autonomous AI platform, demonstrating the vision’s global reach. SoftBank feels proud to back the UAE’s progress. A more connected, happier, and empowered world may be achieved via bold investments, reliable alliances, and national ambition.”
Chuck Robbins, Chair and CEO of Cisco, said, “To promote groundbreaking AI innovation in the United Arab Emirates and globally, Cisco is pleased to collaborate with Stargate UAE. We are creating smart, safe, and energy-efficient networks to transform intelligence into global influence by integrating our secure, AI-optimized networking fabric for this international deployment.”
